CSU Volleyball Signs Benz

Contact: Alan Ashby

Nov. 14, 2006

CLEVELAND - Amy Benz, a two-time all-state selection at middle hitter from Tiffin, Ohio, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Vikings. Benz will attend CSU and compete for the volleyball team beginning in the fall of 2007. Vikings head coach Chuck Voss made the announcement on Tuesday.

"Amy is a fantastic player who we feel will contribute right away," Voss said. "We are a little thin at the middle hitting position, so she will initially play there, but she's talented enough to play multiple positions."

The 6-3 product from Old Fort High School tallied 271 kills and 74 blocks to garner first team all-state accolades in 2006 after earning second team honors as a junior. A two-time first team all-district and all-league selection, she led the team to a 65-14 record over the past three seasons, the 2005 regional championship and three sectional titles.

Having recently wrapped up the regular season, Cleveland State (18-8, 8-6 HL) enters the 2006 Horizon League Championship as the No. 3 seed and will face sixth-seeded Loyola on Friday (Nov. 17) at 11:30 a.m. The tournament runs through Nov. 19 on the Wright State campus.
