CLEVELAND - Cleveland State hung with Horizon League-leading UW-Milwaukee before falling in four games (30-28, 22-30, 30-27, 30-27) in front of a season-high 678 fans on Friday night in Woodling Gymnasium. The loss drops the Vikings to 14-6 overall and 4-4 in the league, while the Panthers improve to 15-5, 7-1.

UWM held slight advantages in hitting percentage (.140 to .124) and aces (8 to 3), while the teams were evenly matched in nearly every other statistic.

"We needed to play a little more consistently in the last three games, but give credit to Milwaukee, they're a tremendous team," CSU head coach Chuck Voss said. "I thought we competed and went toe-to-toe with them, but Milwaukee seemed to win the big points when they needed to."

In game one, the Vikings used a 5-0 run to erase a 21-18 deficit en route to a 30-28 victory. The Panthers dominated the second frame, never trailing while holding CSU to a .022 hitting percentage.

The third and fourth games were nearly carbon copies of each other, with the teams trading points for a majority of the frame before UWM was able to pull away late.

Freshman Kayla Lefeld had a breakout night for the Vikings, posting career-highs of 14 kills and 12 digs for her first double-double. Senior Danielle Siefker tallied 11 kills and a match-high nine blocks, while freshman Liz Fazio notched 12 kills and six digs. Sophomore Jordan Bateman added a match-high 28 digs.

Cheryl Hegemann recorded 16 kills, 13 digs and six blocks to lead four Panthers in double-figure kills, while Leanne Felsing posted a triple-double with 12 kills, 24 assists and 20 digs.

Cleveland State is in action again on Saturday (Oct. 21) when the Vikings host UW-Green Bay at 4:00 p.m.
