Volleyball Closes Out Invitational With Pair Of Victories

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State improved to 9-3 on the season with sweeps of St. Francis and Lehigh on the final day of the Medical Mutual CSU Invitational. By virtue of their 3-1 record in the tournament, the Vikings finished in second place behind IPFW (3-0). CSU junior middle hitter Jamie Bouyer (Bedford Heights, Ohio/Chanel) earned a spot on the all-tournament team after posting a .463 hitting percentage in the four matches. In the day's opening match, the Vikings defeated St. Francis 30-15, 31-29, 30-15. Bouyer led the way with 10 kills and no errors in 14 attempts (.714), while sophomore outside hitter Emily Clark (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) added eight kills and 11 digs. CSU blanked Lehigh 30-19, 30-26, 30-17 in the nightcap. Sophomore outside hitter Alisa Hatcher (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) paced the Vikings with 13 kills and 10 digs. Bouyer hit .474 (11-2-19) for the match, while junior setter Kelly Crain (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) hit .700 (7-0-10) with 40 assists, 10 digs and five blocks. Clark finished with 15 digs. "I thought tonight's performance against Lehigh was our most consistent effort of the tournament," noted CSU head coach Chuck Voss. "The girls did a great job of implementing our game plan and adjusted well to the changes we made during the match. I am very pleased with the win." Cleveland State is in action again when the Vikings host Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 7:00 p.m. in Woodling Gymnasium.
