Jan. 30, 2005
Rocky River, Ohio - Cleveland State held little back when they took on St. Bonaventure and Robert Morris Sunday (Jan. 30) afternoon at River Oaks Racquet Club, disposing of both teams by 7-0 scores. The Vikings won every match on the day, taking all but one match in two sets. Sophomore No. 3 Morgan Ungerott rallied back from a 5-2 deficit in the first set against Stephanie Fosnight of St. Bonaventure, winning the next five games to take a 7-5 set win before claiming the second set, 6-1. She then easily handled Sarah Hancock of Robert Morris in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore No. 1 Sarah Galon won a tough-fought battle with SBU's Ann Perevenzetseva. All three sets went into tiebreakers, but Galon came out on top in two for the 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5), 13-11 win. She also tallied a 6-3, 6-4 win over Renee James of RMU.
Senior No. 5 Rebekah Bicksler was solid as well, shutting out Sarah Costello of St. Bonaventure, 6-0, 6-0, while allowing Lauren Dominijanni on Robert Morris only two games (6-1, 6-1). "We took care of business today," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "It's good to see how far we have come in the last few years. Today, we were able to get out in front early and finish off the matches."
"We played very steady all around," assistant coach Teresa Boylan added. "Nobody let up. Everyone was under control and played very well." Cleveland State has a week off before hosting Oakland at River Oaks Racquet Club on Feb. 11 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
