Vikings Open Season at Youngstown State Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Cleveland State's Mallory Wyderka shot an opening round 79 as the Vikings totaled a 329 in the opening round of the Youngstown State Invitational on Sunday afternoon on the par-72, Salem Hills Golf Course.

"I am pleased with the way we played in the first round," said CSU assistant coach Nathan Miklos, who traveled with the squad. "We battled through some tough weather conditions, especially on the front nine, and I expect us to come out and play another soild round tomorrow."

The Vikings first round total of 629 puts them in fifth place overall. Youngstown State leads the event after carding a team total 312. The hosts are followed by Detroit (319), Dayton and IPFW (319) and Cleveland State.

Wyderka is tied for eighth place after her 79 (41-38). She trails co-leaders Adrianna DiLonardo and Kathryn Rogner of Youngstown State by three shots.

CSU will conclude the 36-hole Youngstown State Invitational on Monday. The teams will play the final 18 holes beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 am.
