Feb. 26, 2007 CLEVELAND - Cleveland State senior women's basketball center Chenara Wilson has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week. The honor is the first of the Cleveland native's career and she joins classmate Nicole Thomas as Vikings to be recognized this season. The league office made the announcement on Monday afternoon. Playing her final home game, Wilson equaled her career-highs with 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead CSU past Youngstown State, 68-57, on Saturday (Feb. 24). She scored 14 of her points in the second half to move the Vikings into a tie for sixth place heading into the final week of the regular season. Wilson was 6-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the line while posting her second career double-double. Winners of three of its last four games, Cleveland State (8-19, 5-9 HL) heads into the final week of the regular season in a three-way tie for sixth place in the Horizon League with Loyola and Youngstown State. Trailing fifth-place Wright State by just a game in the standings, the Vikings will travel to Fairborn on Thursday (Mar. 1) to face the Raiders at 8:00 p.m. CSU will then head to Butler for a 2:00 p.m. tip on Saturday (Mar. 3). CSU can still finish anywhere from fifth to eighth depending on how the final week plays out. |
