Cold-Shooting Vikings Lose To Wright State, 72-53

Jan. 7, 2002

Box Score

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State (6-6, 2-1 Horizon League) shot just 26 percent (19-for-73) from the field en route to losing to Wright State, 72-53, Monday night in Goodman Arena. The Raiders (3-11, 1-2 HL) shot just 39 percent, but pulled down 13 more rebounds (53-40) to earn their first conference win.

WSU jumped out to a 15-3 lead just four minutes into the game, but the Vikings battled back to tie the score at 26-26 at the 5:18 mark of the first half. However, the Raiders responded with a 13-2 run to take an 11-point lead into the locker room. Things proved to be no different in the second stanza, as WSU scored the first nine points of the half to put the game out of reach.

"When you shoot 26 percent you can't win," noted CSU head coach Duffy Burns. "We just did not execute."

Freshman Maria Rickards (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) tallied team-highs of 11 points and eight rebounds to lead CSU, while sophomore Ashley Schrock (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) added 11 points. Junior guard Erika Roudebush (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) came into the contest as the conference's leading scorer at 19.4 ppg, but was held to just seven points.

WSU sophomore center Robyn Swain posted a career-high tying 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead all players. Freshman guard Jill Ransdell added a career-best 17 points for the Raiders.

Cleveland State is in action again on Thursday, Jan. 10 when it hosts Illinois-Chicago at 5:00 p.m. in Goodman Arena.
