Joe Dennis Named EWL Freshman Of The Year

March 25, 2005

After tallying a school-record 29 wins and coming within one win from the Eastern Wrestling League Championship, freshman heavyweight Joe Dennis has been named the EWL Freshman of the Year.

The Urban, Ohio native went 6-0 in league dual meets and advanced to the championship match in the EWL Tournament, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. He then posted a pair of wins in his first national tournament before bowing out.

Dennis' 29 wins on the season are a Cleveland State record for a freshman. Dan Carcelli (1991-92) and Gerald Harris (1998-99) held the previous mark of 26 victories.
