Wrestling Falls At Bloomsburg, 27-9
Feb. 5, 2006
Bloomsburg, Pa. - The weekend did not end well for the Cleveland State wrestling team on Sunday (Feb. 5), as Bloomsburg handed the Vikings a 27-9 defeat in Eastern Wrestling League action at Nelson Field House.
CSU (5-6, 1-2 EWL) managed three victories on the day, with decisions by sophomore Ryan Hurley (141), freshman Victer Crenshaw (157) and senior Ron Howard (184).
After the Huskies jumped to a 12-0 advantage through the first three bouts, Hurley put the Vikings on the board with a 5-2 decision over George Hickman, thanks in part to stalling penalties called against Hickman. Crenshaw followed with a win of his own, topping Aric Furman, 7-3, to cut the Bloomsburg advantage to 12-6, but the Huskies would score a decision and a pin in the next two bouts to build up a 21-6 lead.
Howard scored a takedown with 21 seconds remaining in the bout to break a 1-1 tie for a 3-1 win. The victory was his seventh win in his last eight bouts to improve to 22-7 on the season.
The Vikings return home to Woodling Gym on Thursday (Feb. 9) when they host Edinboro beginning at 7:00 p.m.
