Dobies Again Named Horizon League Swimmer of the Week
Dec. 5, 2007 Contact: Gene Natale, Jr. CLEVELAND, Ohio - After setting two NCAA "B" qualifying marks, and helping five relays to top finishes at the Miami (OH) Invitational, Cleveland State sophomore Jakub Dobies has been honored as the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week for the third consecutive week. The league office made the announcement Wednesday evening. Dobies' performances are getting better every week, and his marks in the 200 breaststroke (2:00.43), 50 freestyle (20.70), 100 freestyle (44.62) swam at Miami were all new school records. He won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 54.03, qualifying for nationals along with setting a pool and invitational record in the event. His swims in both breaststroke events were NCAA "B" qualifying marks, and his effort in the 200 breaststroke was also a new Horizon League record. "He'll be in the top ten in the nation with those times," head coach Wally Morton said. With Dobies receiving the award for the third straight week, Cleveland State has now had a swimmer named for this honor for four consecutive weeks overall, beginning with Dave Duecker on Nov. 7. Dobies has won swimmer of the week four times overall. CSU has wrapped up all competition for 2007 calendar year, and will be back in action in January for a Holiday Invitational. |
