Vikings Topple League Top Times At Miami Invitational

Oxford, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's and women's swim teams combined to set eight Horizon League top times at the Miami Invitational on the first day Friday night (Dec. 3). Currently, the men's team stands in third place with 347 points, while the women's squad sits in seventh with 210.

The men's 400 medley relay team of Pieter Pelser, Gabriel Linton, Luke Wilkens and Johan Norling took first-place while swimming to a league season-best time of 3:22.33.

Additionally, Wilkens set the top mark in the 500 free with a time of 4:31.99, edging teammate Bjorn Schantz's personal-best 4:34.25. Pelser tied for the league-best time in the 200 IM, swimming the event in 1:54.57.

The women's 200 freestyle relay team of Marianne Lionell, Deanna Raedel, Samantha Jones and Lesley Jones posted a league-best 1:38.57 while the 400 medley relay team of Samantha Jones, Lionell, Kirsty McKechnie and Raedel tallied a season-best 3:57.44.

Lionell won the 50 in a league-best 23.86, Samantha Jones swam to a season best 2:09.90 in the prelims of the 200 IM and McKechnie reclaimed the top mark in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.25.

The second day of the Miami Invitational gets under way Saturday (Dec. 4) with prelims at 9:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m.
