CHICAGO, Ill. - Cleveland State started its Horizon League title defense by setting a school and pool record in the 200 medley relay and finished in second place with 96 points after the first day of the league championships at Flames Natatorium at UIC.

Sophomore Nedim Nisic, freshmen Jakub Dobies and Stephen Grove and junior Johan Norling combined to clock a 1:30.91 in the event, the seventh and final of the championships' first day.

Senior Bjorn Schantz placed third behind two Wright State swimmers in the 1000 free with a 9:25.27 and the 200 free relay team (sophomore Marko Milenkovic with Nisic, Grove and Norling) placed third behind UIC and Wright State with a time of 1:23.56.

"We feel good we're definitely in the hunt," head coach Wally Morton said. "Setting the school and natatorium record was exciting, but overall, we know we can do better. It's still a four-day meet and we're looking forward to the rest of the meet."

Wright State leads the team scores with 130 points. After CSU, UIC is in third with 87 points followed by UW-Milwaukee (81), UW-Green Bay (76) and Butler (65).
