Joachim Walker Named Horizon League Newcomer Of The Year

Nov. 9, 2001

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State junior forward Joachim Walker (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) was tabbed today as the Horizon League's Newcomer of the Year. In addition, Walker also earned a spot on the second team and all-newcomer team. Walker joins Paul McIlravey (1996) as the only CSU players to earn conference Newcomer of the Year honors.

In his first year with the Vikings after transferring from Mercyhurst College, Walker paced the team with seven goals and an assist for a team-best 15 points. He started all 17 games for CSU, recording the 10th hat trick in Krenzler Field history to help the Vikings defeat St. Bonaventure, 4-3, on Sept. 22.

Cleveland State (3-14-0, 0-7-0 HL) takes on No. 16 UW-Milwaukee (16-3-0, 7-0-0 HL) in the Horizon League Quarterfinals tomorrow (Nov. 10) at 1:00 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis. The Panthers won the first meeting, 1-0, on Oct. 21 in Cleveland.
