CSU Opens Season at John Piper Intercollegiate

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Cleveland State carded rounds of even-par (288) and five-over-par (293) in day one action of the John Piper Intercollegiate on Monday at the par-72, Sand Ridge Golf Club. The Vikings are in fourth place overall and trail third place Green Bay (576) by just five strokes. Eastern Kentucky leads the tournament (561) with the host Falcons just two shots back at 563. CSU is one shot ahead of fifth place Ball State (582) and seven strokes ahead of Youngstown State (588) who sits in sixth place. "We got off to a great start in the morning, but kind of faltered on the final few holes of round one and the first couple holes of the second round," CSU head coach Steve Weir said. "But we regrouped nicely and the guys really battled through. The swings were a little shaky in the afternoon round, but they grinded it out." Sophomore Patrick Elber finished as CSU's top golfer with a two-round total of 143 (70-73) on day one. He is tied for sixth place overall, seven shots ourt of the lead shared by three golfers. Junior Jake Scott is tied for 11th at 145 (70-75), while freshman Kent Monas is one stroke behind Scott after rounds of 74 and 72 (146). He is tied for 17th. CSU will conclude the 54-hole invitational with an 18 hole round on Monday. The shotgun start is slated for 8:00 pm at Sand Ridge. CSU SCORES |
