Sanchez Starks is the hard-working walk-on that every program likes to have. He has shown considerable improvement in his skills in his two seasons with the squad. Given the chance for extended playing time late last year, he displayed the longe-range shooting skills that could help him find a place in the lineup this year.

2003-04 Season: • Reserve guard who made the team as a walk-on early in the 2002-03 season and impressed the coaches with his work ethic.
• Hard work in practice paid dividends, earning him playing time in each of the last four games.
• Started the Horizon League Tournament game at Detroit (March 2), scoring six points, on two-for-two shooting from three-point, playing a career-high 34 minutes.
• Had his breakout game at UW-Milwaukee (Feb. 28), scoring six points with three rebounds, two assists and two steals, all career highs.
• Played final two minutes against UW-Milwaukee (Jan. 22), grabbing two rebounds and handing out an assist.

CLEVELAND STATE CAREER:
• Joined the team as a walk-on early in the 2002-03 season and played in three games.
• Made his Viking debut in the Dec. 21 win over Boston University, playing one minute.
• Most extensive action came in the March 1 Detroit game, playing seven minutes. He connected on his lone shot -- a three-pointer -- while grabbing one rebound.

PRE-CLEVELAND STATE:
• Averaged 15.2 points a game as a senior at John F. Kennedy High, playing for coach William Marrow.
• Earned three letters in both basketball and track and two in football.
• Played sophomore season at New Canaan (Ct.) High before moving back to Cleveland for junior year. Attended Brush High as a junior and JFK as a senior.
• Played on the Brush team that won its division title and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.

PERSONAL:
Born May 3, 1984 in Cleveland. . . son of Shawanna Starks-Reddick. . . has two younger sisters. . . has spent the last four summers working as a counselor for a NASA-sponsored program, teaching middle school students about the space program . . . was a member of the merit roll in high school while also being active in student government and the computer club. . . chemistry major.
