Second-year director of basketball operations Bill Buck is no stranger to Viking basketball. After all, the 25-year old Buck served as a student manager for the men's basketball program at Cleveland State for three seasons from 2000-03 before graduating in 2004 with a degree in communication. A native of Franklin, Pa., Buck is responsible for coordinating most of the administrative functions of the basketball office, including team travel, community service and assisting in monitoring the academic progress of the players. He handles player personnel matters, helps to coordinate the various Viking basketball camps and serves as a personal assistant to coach Waters. Buck has been busy since leaving the downtown campus four years ago. He started his coaching career in 2004 as an assistant coach at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C. In his lone season at Pfeiffer, he helped coach the NCAA Division II Falcons to a 27-5 record and the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference title. Pfeiffer led the nation with a 94.7 scoring average. Buck moved to Mount Union as assistant men's coach in 2005-06 under head coach Lee Hood. He took on the additional role as the head coach of the junior varsity team, guiding the Purple Raiders to a 13-4 record. A two-sport letterman at Franklin High School, Buck was a key member of the basketball team that went 25-5, won the conference title and advanced to the state quarterfinals during his senior year. He also lettered twice in track, running a leg on the school's record-setting 1600-meter relay team. Buck resides in University Heights. |
