Three Vikings Named To All-Horizon League Teams
May 24, 2005 INDIANAPOLIS - Three Cleveland State baseball players were named to all-Horizon League teams at the league tournament banquet on Tuesday (May 24), as junior Gary Ball and senior Dominic Erney were named to the all-league second team, while freshman Bobby Cash was selected to the all-newcomer team. Ball, a right-handed pitcher and designated hitter during the season, earned the second team utility player award. He served as the Vikings' No. 2 starting pitcher and a reliever, touting a 4.53 ERA with a pair of saves in over 50 innings. The Mansfield, Pa. native also batted .240 as a DH in eight Horizon League contests.
Erney was selected as the second team first baseman after leading the league with nine home runs, including six in conference play. The Horizon League Player of the Week on April 25, he led the Vikings with 54 hits, 35 RBI and a .536 slugging percentage. The Parma Heights, Ohio native only struck out 13 times in 166 at bats and had an 11-game hitting streak from April 24 to May 8. Cash was one of the most promising newcomers on the Vikings, batting .290 while starting in 45 games at second base, third base and shortstop. The Hudson, Ohio native collected 47 hits and 22 RBI in his first collegiate season. He also had a 9-game hitting streak from April 27 to May 8 and recorded 10 multi-hit games. CSU opens up the Horizon League Championship on Wednesday (May 25) against Wright State beginning at 12:00 noon EDT at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
