CLEMSON, SC - Clemson women's track and field senior Lauren Nicholson (Marietta, GA) won the 2003 Orange & Purple Heptathlon on Saturday at the Rock Norman Track Complex. Nicholson scored 5,200 points to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held on June 11-14 in Sacramento, CA. She moves into second on the Lady Tigers' all-time list in the heptathlon with that point total, and currently ranks 11th in the nation in the event. Nicholson had previously provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships at the ACC Championships, where she scored 5,036 points and placed third.

North Carolina's Tatyana Kirichenko scored 5,077 points to place second and Gardner-Webb's Tara Stephenson was third with 5,071 points. Both Kirichenko and Stephenson's point totals are provisional qualifying marks. Jennifer Hoppe placed fourth with 4,851 points, Kristen Shipley of Mars Hill College was fifth with 4,023 points, and North Carolina's Christian Johnson took sixth with 3,727 points.

The Clemson women's track and field team will return to action next weekend at the Reebok Invitational in Atlanta, GA.
