Clemson, SC - The Clemson women's track squad posted a final score of 172.50 to claim a second-place finish at the Clemson Invitational. Purdue captured the team title with a final score of 178. Clemson (172.50), Syracuse (90) Miami of Ohio (72), Virginia Tech (71.50) rounded out the field.
Senior Jamine Moton paced the Lady Tiger efforts claiming first place in both the shot put (53'9.75"/16.40m) and the hammer throw (201'0"/61.26). She is now automatically qualified for both events at the NCAA Championships which will be held in Baton Rouge, La. May 29-June 1.
Shannon Murray of Clemson took first place 100 meter dash (11.71), and Danielle Whaley finished third with a time of 12.05. Silja Ulfarsdottir earned first place in the 400 meter dash (54.82) while Marcia Smith was second (55.03). Smith also posted a first place finish in the 200 meter run (24.12), while Whaley was third with a time of 24.77. Ulfarsdottir also scored for Clemson in the 200m dash with a time of 25.09. Lauren Nicholson came in first in the 100 meter high hurdles (14.49) and Nicholson also posted a first place finish in the long jump (5.75m). In the 400m hurdles, Ulfarsdottir was second in 1:00.32 and Katrina Moultrie was fifth (1:03.43). The 4x100m relay team won in 45.29, and the 4x400m relay won its event with a time of 3:45.66.
In the high jump, Katie Pickett finished second with a mark of 5'7"/1.70m, and Joana Costa posted a second-place finish in the pole vault (12'3.5"/3.75m). In the long jump, Nicholson won the event and Sheri Smith was second with jumps of 18'10.5"/5.75m. Smith also finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 41'10.75"/12.77m. In the javelin throw, Elizabeth Lord and Keshia Haughton scored for the Lady Tigers with fifth (121'5"/37.02m) and sixth-place (111'10"/34.08m) finishes, respectively. Clemson took first and second in the shot put. Moton posted a mark of 53'9.75"/16.40m and Jackie Hudgins was the runnerup with a mark of 47'5.75"/14.47m. In the discus throw, Moton finished second (164'9"/50.22m).
