CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson women's track and field team tallied 217.5 points behind four regional qualifiers to finish second at the 2004 Clemson Invitational held Saturday at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex. The University of Pittsburgh won the meet with 273.5 points, and Appalachian State tallied 72 points for third place. Howard University took fourth place with 70.5 points, Arkansas State was fifth with 46.5 points and East Tennessee State rounded out the field with 24 points.
On the track for the Lady Tigers, Silja Ulfarsdottir led Clemson in the 100m dash with a fourth-place finish and time of 11.91. Jessica Cousins also scored for Clemson in the 100m with a fifth-place finish in 11.94. Ulfarsdottir also led the Lady Tigers in the 200m, posting a time of 24.16 to finish second. Cousins placed third in the 200m with a time of 24.26 and Randi Hinton also scored with a fifth-place finish and time of 24.31. Randi Hinton was the runner-up in the 400m with a time of 55.98 and Sudati Masasu won the 800m with a time of 2:12.84. Patrice McMillan ran a 2:14.97 in the 800m to finish second, and Casey Phillips recorded a time of 4:37.54 to finish second in the 1500m. Phillips posted another runner-up finish in the 5000m run with a time of 18:09.49. In the 100m hurdles, Jelyn Quick crossed the finish line in 14.01 to place third, and Christina Smith was a scorer with a time of 14.32 to finish sixth. Smith was a regional qualifier in the 400m hurdles with a second-place finish and time of 59.79. Jelyn Quick finished fifth in 1:05.41 and Shakirah Rutherford placed sixth with her time of 1:05.48. Jennifer Barton was the runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 11:58.95 to become the Lady Tigers' all-time leader in the event. The Lady Tigers' 4x100m relay team of Silja Ulfarsdottir, Shakirah Rutherford, Randi Hinton and Jessica Cousins qualified for the region championships with a first-place finish and time of 45.45. In the 4x400m relay, Clemson's Silja Ulfarsdottir, Christina Smith, Randi Hinton and Shakirah Rutherford captured the event with another regional qualifying time of 3:41.89.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, Apr. 10 as Clemson travels to Athens, GA, for the Spec Towns Invitational.
