CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson men's track and field team won 13 events at the 2003 NC-SC All-Star Meet held Saturday at the Rock Norman Track Complex. The Tigers also qualified four individuals for the East Region Championships.

In the 100m, Tye Hill placed third with a time of 10.76, while George Kitchens took fourth in 10.78. Otto Spain broke the tape in the 200m in 20.94 to lead the field, and Ronald Richards, Warren Eure and Robert Ibeh swept third through fifth places with times of 21.54, 21.56 and 21.73, respectively. In the 400m, Warren Eure won the race with a time of 48.42, while Garrick Copes placed third (49.89). Derrick Wyatt claimed the 800m with his time of 1:55.09, and Mike Barton won the 1500m in 3:53.09. Scott Shaw took second in the 1500m with a time of 3:53.97, and David Adans won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:28.24. In the 110m hurdles, Roy Cheney and Scott Kautz placed third and fourth with times of 14.45 and 14.96, respectively. Roy Cheney won the 400m hurdles in a qualifying time of 52.17, followed by Rashad Gardner, Scott Kautz and Marcus Hodge who swept second through fourth places. Gardner posted a time of 53.05, Kautz finished in 53.06 and Hodge recorded a time of 53.31. The Tigers' 4x100m relay team also won that event, posting a time of 41.03.
 

 

Terrance McDaniel won the long jump with a regional qualifying leap of 24'5", Brit Barrow was second with a mark of 22'6.5" and Brent Hobbs was fourth in 21'0". Brit Barrow claimed the triple jump with a mark of 46'11.75", and Ryan Lewis won the pole vault with a clearance of 16'4.75" to regionally qualify. Adam Klotzbach placed second in the pole vault with his mark of 15'7". Derek Gilson was a triple winner for the Tigers, claiming the shot put, discus and hammer. In the shot put, Derek Gilson recorded a mark of 50'11.5", and Ryan Hunter placed fourth (41'1"). Derek Gilson recorded a throw of 162'7" in teh discus and Brent Hobbs took fourth with a mark of 129'1". In the hammer, Derek Gilson posted a mark of 164'2", and Matt Lombardi was the runner-up with a mark of 159'4".

The Tigers return to action on Apr. 18-19 in Raleigh, NC, at the 2003 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
