FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- The Clemson men's track and field team posted a seventh-place finish at the 2002 NCAA Indoor Championships with 17 points. The Tigers' have posted seven top-10 indoor finishes under head coach Bob Pollock during his 14-year tenure. Clemson's Ato Modibo and Dwight Thomas each earned All-America honors in the 400m dash and 60m dash, respectively.
Modibo finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 46.44, earning his seventh All-America accolade. He is currently tied for fourth on Clemson's all-time All-America honor winners list. Thomas recorded a time of 6.70 in the 60m dash, posting a sixth-place finish and also earning All-American status.
In the 4x400m relay, Clemson suffered incidental contact on the first curve of the anchor leg, dropping the Tigers' out of scoring contention in that relay. Having run the fifth-fastest time in the country last weekend with a time of 3:06.67, Clemson recorded a time of 3:12.21 in today's race.
"Considering the Tigers were not ranked in Trackwire's top 25 national ranking prior to the NCAA Championships, Clemson's seventh-place finish was the greatest surprise of the meet," said head coach Bob Pollock. "I am very proud of the way that our athletes responded to the challenge of competing with the top teams in the nation."
