STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Freshman Terrence Oglesby scored 17 points and hit two key free throws Thursday night as Clemson beat Mississippi State.

Clemson (2-0) went to the foul line 38 times as the Tigers snapped Mississippi State's eight-game home winning streak.

The teams were tied 71-71 late before Clemson hit three free throws, including two by Oglesby, to gain separation from Mississippi State (1-1).

K.C. Rivers had 17 points for the Tigers, along with seven rebounds. James Mays scored 14 and Cliff Hammonds added 13.

Mississippi State's Jamont Gordon had 23 points and 12 rebounds and Charles Rhodes had 17 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Barry Stewart added 12 points and Brian Johnson scored 10.

Mississippi State led early, but a 7-0 run with about 11 minutes to go in the first half helped the Tigers take a 39-32 halftime lead. Rivers spurred Clemson in the half with nine points and three steals.

Mississippi State rallied midway through the second half in a game that included 14 lead changes. The Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run capped by a Gordon 3-pointer to tie the game 52-52.

The Tigers won despite hitting just 34 percent of their field goals and being outscored 50-45 in the second half.

Clemson, however, forced 19 Mississippi State turnovers, made 28 of 38 free-throw attempts and hit eight 3-pointers -- one more than the Bulldogs.
