Oct. 18, 2000

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Elton "Otto" Spain, a sophomore on the Tiger track team,
will represent the United States in the Eighth Annual IAAF World Junior
Track and Field Championships Oct. 17-22 in Santiago, Chile.

Clemson head coach Bob Pollock said, "We are excited for Otto to
represent the United States and Clemson at the World Junior
Championships. He did a tremendous job here as a freshman and he will
do an outstanding job for Team USA."

A native of Irmo, South Carolina, Spain will compete in the 400m as a
member of Team USA. As a freshman at Clemson, Spain was a member of the
Tiger 4x400m relay team that finished second at the USA Indoor
Championships and tenth in the NCAA Championships. His time of 47.03 in
