CALIFORNIA - Despite watching sophomore forward Sara Pratt become the fifth player in school history to record 60 career blocked shots, Clarion fell at California 71-42 in PSAC-West women's basketball action Saturday afternoon.

For the second straight, turnovers doomed Clarion (10-6 overall, 0-2 PSAC-West) with the Golden Eagles giving the ball away 36 times including 21 Cal steals. Those giveaways led to 40 of California's 71 points

Cal (14-2, 1-0) used an 13-6 run at the end of the first half to build a 31-20 halftime lead then started the second half on an 14-4 run to put the game away.

Janelle Zabresky once again led Clarion off the bench with nine points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots while Ashley Grimm added nine points and three assists. Pratt had four points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots giving her 60 in her career. She is the first Golden Eagle to reach 60 swats since Shay Godwin recorded 61 in a 2-year career that ended in 2005.

Crystal Andrews paced Cal with 17 points, Kayla Smith had 16 points and nine rebounds, Amber Dubyak 14 and Brooque Williams 10 points and eight boards.

Neither team shot particularly well from the floor with Clarion hitting 32.6 percent of its shots and Cal 36.4 percent of its. But the Vulcans (13-2, 1-0) nearly doubled Clarion's shot total (77 to 46) and hit seven 3-pointers to Clarion's one.

Both teams return to action Wednesday with Clarion hosting Lock Haven (6 p.m.) and Cal visiting Shippensburg (6 p.m.)

NOTES - Pratt has 39 blocked shots this season, the seventh most in a season in school history ... Zabresky's four swats gives her 31 on the year, the eighth most in a season at Clarion, and 41 in her two years at Clarion ... The 42 points are the lowest in a game for Clarion since losing 74-41 to Slippery Rock two seasons ago ... It was the first time this year Clarion failed to have a player reach double figures ...
