Lady Bucs, Rhodes Play To 1-1 Draw

Memphis, TN – The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer soccer team scored first tonight, but a goal, 13 minutes into the second half, tied the match and the Lady Bucs and Rhodes played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie.

CBU (1-2-2) got on the board with just ten seconds left in the first half as Sara Senkbeil was pulled down in the box and the Lady Bucs were awarded a penalty kick. Ciara McGuiness nailed her second PK of the year, putting CBU up 1-0 going into the half.

Rhodes (4-1-1) was out shot by the Lady Bucs 5-4 in the first half, but returned the favor in the second half, with a 6-5 advantage. Elizabeth Daters scored off a pass from Jessica Cassidy to tie the match in the 58th minute.

Rhodes out-shot the Lady Bucs 8-3 in overtime, but neither team could find the back of the net.

McGuiness had two shots on goal including the penalty kick. Embla Grettarsdottir had five shots, including one on goal. Sara Plummer made four saves in goal.

The Lady Bucs play host to a crucial weekend with West Georgia at 7 p.m. on Friday and West Florida at noon on Sunday.
