MEMPHIS--For the second time in three days, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs held on for a close win as they defeated North Alabama 57-54 Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

The Lady Bucs (7-1) won their fourth straight game and never trailed in the second half, but they could never build their lead past nine points after a first half that saw seven ties and six lead changes.

Three-pointers by junior forward Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg HS) and Katie Hume (Memphis, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) at the end of the first half gave the Lady Bucs a 26-20 lead they would never relinquish, as UNA (3-5) pulled within three points four different times in the second half.

Junior guard Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) and senior center Ponecia Anderson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) scored 14 points each to pace the Lady Bucs. Shelton grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go with her eight points.

Amber Rutherford led the Lions with 18 points and was one of three UNA players with double-digit rebounds as she grabbed 10. Danae Lawrence grabbed 10 rebounds to go with her six points, while Shay Ashford pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds with four points.

UNA out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 49-41 for the game, while CBU forced 14 turnovers while committing nine. The Lady Bucs finished 18-of-59 (30.5 percent) from the floor, including just 4-of-16 (25 percent) from three-point range. The Lady Bucs made 17-of-25 (68 percent) free throws. The Lions shot 21-of-63 (33.3 percent) from the floor and 3-of-17 (17.6 percent) from three-point range. UNA finished 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) from the free throw line.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 15, as they host Blue Mountain at 3 p.m. The Lady Bucs won 71-67 at Blue Mountain Thursday night.
