No. 7 Lady Statesmen Race Past CBU 66-50

Feb. 17, 2007

Final Stats

CLEVELAND, Miss.--No. 7 Delta State scored the first 13 points and never looked back in a 66-50 Gulf South Conference West Division win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday night.

The Lady Bucs (9-16, 1-11 GSC West) whittled the lead down to four at 20-16 on two Ashley Besinger (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) free throws, but Delta State (21-3, 11-1) answered with a 21-5 run, and the Lady Bucs never came closer than 16 points again.

Erin Nigh (Morristown, Ind./Morristown HS) led the Lady Bucs with 13 points, while Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg HS) scored 10. Senior point guard Kelli Gross (Memphis, Tenn./Houston HS) had one assist, giving her 305 for her career. She is now one assist shy of tying the school record.

Jennifer Rushing led DSU with 16 points. Rebekah Brown scored 11, while Brittani Calhoun added 10.

The Lady Bucs will return home Thursday night for Senior Night, when they will honor their four seniors: Gross, Besinger, Mary Shea Hackett (Nesbit, Miss./St. Agnes HS), and Jazmine Borella (Melbourne, Australia). CBU faces Arkansas-Monticello at 5 p.m.
