Peyton's Last-Minute Heroics Lift No. 21 Bucs, 69-66

Nov. 24, 2007

Final Stats

BOCA RATON, Fla.--Junior guard Reggie Peyton (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) scored five points in the final five seconds as the No. 21 Christian Brothers University Bucs earned a 69-66 win at Lynn Saturday night.

The Bucs (4-1) trailed for most of the game, but they kept it close, as the biggest lead for either side was eight points at 44-36 when Lynn's Ed Millard scored on a tip-in.

The Knights (2-1) took a 66-64 lead on a Randy Jones jumper with 32 seconds left. After a time out, the Bucs ran a play for senior forward Kevin Weybright (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming HS). His three-pointer missed, but Peyton snared the rebound. With the final seconds winding down, Peyton collected a pass from Weybright, pump-faked his man into the air, then buried a three-pointer from the left wing to give CBU a 67-66 lead with 4.6 seconds remaining.

The Knights fumbled away the inbounds pass, and Peyton sank both free throws after he was fouled with 3.5 seconds remaining. The Knights' desperation three missed as time expired, giving CBU a 3-0 record in NCAA Division II South Region games this year.

Peyton led the Bucs with 16 points in 33 minutes after being knocked out of Friday's game against Barry with an injury. Weybright and junior center Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) each scored 15, while senior guard Justin Ray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) added 14. Kohs also posted game-highs of seven rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and two steals. Peyton also swatted three shots.

Jones led the Knights with 18 points. Ed Millard added 15 points and seven rebounds, all on the offensive end. Chris Hall scored 11 points, while Hans Schur added 10.

For the game, the Bucs shot 50 percent (26-of-52), including just 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from three-point range. Lynn shot 39.1 percent (25-of-64), including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three-point range. The Knights out-rebounded CBU 40-31, including a 15-5 edge in offensive rebounds.

The Bucs will be back in action next Saturday, Dec. 1, as they visit West Georgia at 1 p.m.
