Jan. 20, 2007

Final Stats

MEMPHIS--Junior forward Kevin Weybright (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming HS) scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to carry the No. 20 Christian Brothers University Bucs to a 68-65 Gulf South Conference West Division victory over No. 17 Delta State Saturday afternoon.

For the second game in a row, Weybright buried the three-pointer that gave the Bucs the lead for good. This time, his three from the right wing broke a 58-58 tie, the game's eighth, with 3:07 to play. Weybright helped ice the game in the last minute, making all four of his free throws to help CBU break Delta's 12-game winning streak.

The Bucs (15-3, 4-1 GSC West) threatened to pull away early in the second half as a Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) lay-up capped a 13-2 run, putting the Bucs on top 41-31 with 15:54 remaining. The Statesmen would respond with an 11-2 run that tied the game on two Derrick White free throws with 7:30 remaining. CBU's Justin Ray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) ended the Delta run with his third three-pointer of the game.

Kohs finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) and Reggie Peyton (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) scored 10 each. Ray finished with nine.

Johnny Hodge led Delta State with 22 points and eight rebounds. Turmaine Rice scored 16, while White added 11.

The Bucs return to the court Thursday night when they visit Arkansas-Monticello at 7 p.m. They come home Saturday afternoon to finish the first half of the GSC West schedule by hosting Harding at 4 p.m.
