Swords Tennis Handles Dixie State In Landmark Win
March 15, 2007
Laie, HI- So much for the delay. The wait was well worth it, as the Lady Swords took care of business, defeating the Rebels of Dixie State, 7-2, to get the first win of the year and first since 2005, for Chaminade. CUH got off to a great start as Audra Takara defeated Ashley Lafeen in a tie breaker, 3-6, 6-4 (10-6). The roll kept on going as Tiffany DeVincent defeated Rebecca Wright 6-2, 6-2 and in #3 singles, Joelle Tanaka won easily defeating DSC's Marci Shefield 6-0, 6-1. Kevahi Leong and Ona Byers also won in #4 and #5 singles for CUH. Doubles was also good for the Swords as the #1 doubles match went to CUH with Tanaka and DeVincent winning 8-0. The #2 doubles proved to be a win for the Chaminade combo of Takara and Leong as well, by a score of 8-1. "It is something we can certainly build upon. We are all excited to see Chaminade Tennis going in the right direction." said Coach James. "The girls have come a long way, learning to play the game in a competitive environment, handle the requirements of tennis, and handle their academic responsibilities". The win over Dixie State marks Chaminade's first win since 2005 and their third win since 2000. The Swords improve to 1-9 on the season with the win. Chaminade is back in action on the 16th for two separate matches in Laie, HI. Chaminade will face Albertson at 10AM, followed by a rematch with Dixie State at 3PM.
