ATLANTA, GA-- Carson-Newman women's basketball coach Dean Walsh has been named the NCAA Division II Russell Athletic/WBCA Region 3 Coach of the Year.

Walsh was selected for the award by his coaching colleagues after leading the Lady Eagles to a 21-10 record and a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Other region winners selected by the WBCA include University of Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt and the University of Connecticut's Geno Auriemma.

Walsh now advances as a finalist to the national level of the selection process along with the other Regional Coaches of the Year in their respective division.
