C-N Finishes Sixth At Regional

ASHLAND, OH-- The Carson-Newman Eagle wrestling team finished sixth at the 2007 NCAA Midwest Regional with 76.5 points, but Nathan Jones, Mike Rogers, and Kody Pierson qualified for the NCAA Division II national tournament at Kearney, Nebraska from March 8-10.

After losing his first round match, Kody Pierson defeated Findlay's Alex Shumaker, Central Missouri's Caleb Dixon, and Tyler Zukerman of Central Oklahoma to finish third in the 125-lb. division. Jake Brumbelow lost to eventual third-place finisher Craig DeGreef of Wisconsin-Parkside in his first match, but defeated Kyle Kanaga of Ashland and Keaton Baker of Central Missouri to finish fifth in the 133-lb. class.

Kent Pierson finished fifth place in the 141-lb. division after defeating Mike Periano of Findlay and Adam Vogt of Truman State while Mike Rogers defeated Truman State's Chad Swagman and Indianapolis' Charlie Pingleton before losing in the regional final to Central Oklahoma's Shea Timothy. Cody Humphrey finished fifth in the 157-lb. division by defeating SIU-Edwardsville's Joe Rujawitz and Central Missoouri's Adam Tieben.

Finally, Nate Jones earned another trip to the Division II national tournament by defeating SIU-Edwardsville's Jake Petri and Central Missouri's Jeremy Hudson before falling to Central Oklahoma's Jared Hess in the regional final.
