A two-sport star at Cal, will concentrate solely on softball this season after completing her basketball eligibility in March 2000 ? recruited out of high school as a shortstop and has worked hard in the fall to make the transition from the outfield where she played from 1998-2000, back to shortstop ? a leader on and off the field ? versatile athlete who can play many positions ? may bat in the six or seven hole in the line-up ? a two-time first team Pac-10 All-Academic selection As a Junior: Bowie joined her softball teammates March 12, one day after the completion of the basketball season ?. struggled at the plate in the with a .167 average ? however, came alive in the NCAA regional by batting .455 (5-for-11) with three runs, a double and an RBI on her way to earning Most Outstanding Player honors ... was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI in Cal's 2-0 opening win over Florida ... also scored the tying run in the second Florida game and Cal's second run in the 2-0 victory over Fresno State in the title match of the regional tournament ... went 1-for-5 in the College World Series with a single against Oklahoma in the first round ? saw action in both right and center field ... completed her basketball career with 1,043 points and is the 14th player in Cal history to score 1,000 points ?. As a Sophomore: Bowie again joined the softball team one day after the completion of the basketball season, traveling to San Luis Obispo to meet her softball teammates for a doubleheader at Cal Poly March 7 ? batted 0-1 in her first game back, but then went on a nine-game hitting streak that lasted until March 14 ? average was above .400 as late as April 10 and she ended the year with a team-high .318 average ? voted first team GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-District ? also earned second team All-Pac-10 and first team Pac-10 All-Academic honors ? named to the all-tournament team at the Bank of Hawaii Tournament when she went 5-for-9 with four runs scored ? a clutch hitter, she batted .450 with runners in scoring position and .349 with runners on base ? led Cal with 19 multi-hit games. As a Redshirt-Freshman: After the basketball season ended March 7, Bowie played her first softball game for Cal against Stanford March 8 ? started 46 of the 48 games she played ? earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 and second team Pac-10 All-Academic ? voted Pac-10 Player of the Week April 20 after going 5-for-13 with two runs, two home runs and six RBI in games against Arizona and Arizona State ? despite missing the first 14 games of the year, still tied for third on the team with 20 RBI ? led the Bears with six multi-RBI games ? ended the season on an eight-game hitting streak ? had another eight-game streak from March 21-April 4 ? her .290 average tied for fourth on the squad. As a Freshman: Redshirted after she tore a ligament in a finger in her right hand during the basketball season.
