John Mann Named First Team All-MPSF

Dec. 2, 2004

WOODLAND, CA - California sophomore center John Mann has been named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation first team, while sophomore driver Andrija Vasiljevic earned All-MPSF third team honors, it was announced today by MPSF Executive Director Al Beaird. Junior goalie Nate Bennett and sophomore center Brian Kinsel were honorable mention All-MPSF.

Mann led the No. 6-ranked 20-10 Bears in scoring this season with 60 goals, tallying at least one goal in 26 of Cal's 30 matches. He is currently seventh in the MPSF with 2.00 goals per game and recorded five goals in a match three times this season. Mann now has 82 career goals after notching 22 goals last season as a true freshman.

Vasiljevic finished the 2004 campaign on a scoring tear, recording 29 of his 39 goals in the last 17 matches, including goals against USC and UC Santa Barbara in the MPSF Tournament. He was the Bears' top returning scorer this season after tallying 36 goals as a freshman.

Bennett and Kinsel also had outstanding 2004 seasons for the Bears. Bennett recorded 216 saves in 29 matches and had 27 saves in last weekend's MPSF Tournament at Stanford, including 15 saves in Cal's 10-8 overtime loss to defending national champion USC. He was also the Nov. 22 MPSF Player of the Week after recording 12 saves in the Bears' 6-5 Big Splash victory over Stanford. Kinsel was again impressive as a sophomore, finishing fourth on the team in scoring with 37 goals, and was Cal's top scorer with four goals against USC in the MPSF first round match. He was named MPSF honorable mention for the second year in-a-row.
