JUNIOR IN 2002-03: Scored points for the Bears at the 2003 Pac-10 Championships, placing 11th in the 200 fly (1:48.85), 19th in the 200 IM (1:51.43) and 23rd in the 100 fly (49.95) a second team Pac-10 All-Academic selection.

SOPHOMORE IN 2001-02: Placed 12th in the 200 fly (1:48.37), 14th in the 200 IM (1:50.60) and 18th in the 400 IM (3:56.41) at the Pac-10 Championships...held Cal's second-best time in the 400 IM (3:56.41).

FRESHMAN in 2000-01: Had the team's top time in the 400 IM (3:57.37).

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2000 graduate of California High School in San Ramon, CA where he swam for coach Rich Thornton, son of Golden Bear head coach Nort Thornton ...was a two-time team MVP in swimming and was team captain as a senior...also helped his team to the North Coast Section title in 2000...played four years of varsity water polo, as well.

PERSONAL: Majoring in industrial engineering...older brother, Bruce, also swam at Cal from 1999-2002...parents are Fred and Linda Vogelgesang...born July 30, 1982 in Columbia, MD.

What do you plan to accomplish and achieve while at Cal?
"I plan to get a diploma from the best public institution in the world that will allow me to get a great job. I also want to be a part of an NCAA championship team and to have four great years of fun and make friends that will last me a lifetime."
