AS A SOPHOMORE (2001): Qualified for the NCAAs in the 100 and 200 breast...swam the breaststroke leg of the Bears 400 medley relay that placed second at the Pac-10 Championships...also swam breaststroke on Cal's 400 medley relay that established a new Spieker Aquatics Complex record Feb. 3 versus USC....AS A FRESHMAN (2000): Had the team's top time in the 100 breast (54.29, fourth-best all-time Cal mark), placing fourth at the Pac-10 Championship...was also third at the Pac-10 meet in the 200 breast (career-best 1:58.28, seventh-best all-time Cal mark)...placed 16th in the 100 breast and was on the Bears 400 medley relay (breaststroke leg) that placed ninth at the NCAA Championships...HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: At Irvine High School was the Sea View League and Foothill Invitational record holder in 100 breast with a time of 54.89...was also the CIF Division I record holder in the 100 breast (breaking an 18-year-old record held by John Moffet) and helped lead his team to four straight league championships and a CIF Division I runner-up finish...in the summer of 1999 was the Junior National West champion and record holder in the 200-meter breast with a time of 2:19.37 (long course meters)...recruited by USC and UC Irvine before selecting Cal...undeclared major...parents are Yang-Hwan and Young-Su Kim...born July 10, 1981 in Garden Grove, CA.
