Christmas in San Diego For California Football

Dec. 25, 2006

Video Recap of Zoo Visit

Holiday Bowl Video Features

SAN DIEGO -- The nationally-ranked California football team celebrated Christmas on Monday in San Diego with a trip to the world-famous San Diego Zoo, another spirited practice at San Diego State and a hearty traditional holiday dinner at the team's Manchester Grand Hyatt headquarters.

The day started with a visit to the zoo as players had the opportunity to explore the 100-acre facility, seeing the likes of elephants, giraffes, monkeys, lions, tigers, and of course, bears. A selected group of players also had the chance to go behind the scenes to learn about some of different animals directly from zoo trainers.

After a relaxing afternoon, the Golden Bears held another two-hour practice session which focused on game preparation for Thursday night's Holiday Bowl showdown with Texas A&M. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 5 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN from Qualcomm Stadium. Chris Fowler will handle play-by-play duties, Kirk Herbstreit will provide color commentary and Erin Andrews will report from the sidelines.

California, which set a school record for average home attendance this year, will be playing in its fourth consecutive bowl game for the first time in school history on Thursday at Qualcomm Stadium. The Golden Bears have posted a 9-3 record thus far this season. It is just the 15th time that the Bears have won nine or more games in program history.

A limited number of tickets are still available through the Cal Ticket Office, which will open in the lobby of the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 1 p.m.
