Called an "all-purpose player," by head coach Ben Braun, McGuire is the type of versatile performer that Braun likes to have on his roster . adept at the wing, but also can play inside where he can use his long wingspan and leaping ability to his advantage in rebounding and blocking shots . looking to become a more consistent scorer for the Bears in his second season with the program . played with more confidence as his freshman year progressed, and coaches expect that trend to continue into this season . 2003-04 . averaged 4.3 ppg as Cal's top reserve . had four starts on the season, including both games of the Office Depot Golden Bear Classic vs. Columbia and Air Force in December . also had starting assignments vs. UC Irvine and at Washington . led the Bears with 22 blocks and ranked 10th in the Pac-10 with 0.85 blocks per game . had three blocks against both Washington and Oregon State . scored a career-high 10 points in his start vs. Columbia (5-6 FG) . snagged a career-best 11 boards at Arizona to go along with his eight points . also had nine points and five rebounds at home vs. Arizona State, and eight points and eight boards in the home game vs. Oregon . missed the Colorado game in December with the flu.
