Cal's top young catching prospect who will again provide the Bears with depth behind the plate...played for the St. Cloud Riverbats of the Northwoods League this past summer, recording five doubles and 13 RBI in 46 games...had impressive power numbers at California High School in San Ramon...was also a standout tight end and defensive lineman in football.
AS A FRESHMAN (2007): Batted .290 (9-for-31, .200 vs. Pac-10) with a double and five RBI...had five starts behind the plate with 41 putouts and five assists...was 1-for-1 with an RBI at UCLA May 6...in last three games started (Mar. 23-24 vs. Oral Roberts, Mar. 28 at UC Santa Barbara), went 4-for-8 with an RBI...was 1-for-1 with a double at Sacramento State Apr. 17...was 2-for-3 with an RBI at UC Santa Barbara Mar. 28...started first game at catcher Feb. 20 at San Jose State, going 1-for-4 with an RBI single...came off the bench to go 1-for-2 versus UNLV Feb. 18, and 1-for-2 with an RBI versus San Francisco Feb. 13.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: At California High School batted .395 with nine home runs and 36 RBI as a senior in 2006...was named 2006 East Bay Athletic League MVP and Contra Costa Times Athlete of the Year...as a junior batted .373 with six doubles, a triple, four home runs and 25 RBI, earning first-team all-league, first-team All-Contra Costa Times and Cal-Hi Sports All-State underclassman team honors...also recorded a .573 on-base percentage with a .712 slugging percentage, and hit .571 with two home runs and four RBI in three postseason games...undeclared major...parents are Bruce and Sue Tonneson...born September 5, 1987 in Castro Valley, Calif.
