AS A FRESHMAN (2007): Was honorable mention All-Pac-10, batting .320 (57-for-178, .307 vs. Pac-10) with 12 doubles, a triple, six home runs and 30 RBI...started 49 games in right field, throwing two runners out at the plate...also had 23 strikeouts in 21.1 innings on the mound...began college career hitting safely in first eight games (13-for-28, .464, 2B, 3B, three RBI)...went 3-for-3 with a double and home run at Washington May 26...was 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBI versus San Jose State May 8...went 5-for-13 with three doubles, a home run and three RBI at UCLA May 4-6, including 3-for-6 with a double, home run and two RBI May 6...was 5-for-13 with three RBI versus Stanford Apr. 20-22, including going 3-for-5 with two RBI Apr. 22...went 6-for-11 with three doubles at Arizona Apr. 5-7, including 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI Apr. 6...was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, a career-high four RBI, and threw a runner out at the plate at UC Santa Barbara Feb. 25...went 6-for-10 with a double and two RBI versus UNLV Feb. 16-18, including going 3-for-4 with an RBI double and throwing a runner out at the plate Feb. 18...went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple versus UC Irvine Feb. 3...batted .345 (19-for-55) with runners in scoring position.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: At Thomas Downey High School was three-time first-team all-league and two-time first-team all-district, batting .412 with seven home runs and a .721 on-base percentage as a senior...as a junior batted .438 with five home runs and was 13-for-13 in stolen bases...competed in the 2006 Modesto Rotary All-Star Game, and in the summer of 2005 played for the Milwaukee Brewers in the Area Code Games in Long Beach...undeclared major with an interest in mass communications...parents are Rob and Gail Smith...born December 9, 1987 in Modesto, Calif.
