Watch the 800-meter run final at the USA Outdoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS - California's Alysia Johnson capped an outstanding junior season by winning the national title in the women's 800-meter run on Sunday at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium at IUPUI. On the last day of the meet, Johnson ran a 1:59.47 on a wet track to claim her latest crown and earn a spot on the U.S. team that will compete at the 2007 World Championships Aug. 24-Sept. 2 in Osaka, Japan.

This is Johnson's second-fastest time, as she ran a school-record 1:59.29 to win the NCAA outdoor 800 title earlier this month. She also won the 800 crown in a Cal indoor-record 2:03.47 at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this year.

Golden Bears senior Kevin Davis ran a school-record 8:35.37 to take ninth place in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase final and junior teammate Ed Wright placed 10th in the men's high jump final with a mark of 7-01.75 (2.18 meters).

Former Bear Kristin Heaston won the women's shot put final with a toss of 61-05.75 (18.74) and joined Johnson and Grace Upshaw, a former Bear who won the women's long jump title yesterday, on the U.S. team in Japan.
