Complete Results from the First Round of the Women's 800-Meter Run
INDIANAPOLIS - California junior Alysia Johnson and sophomore teammate Mackenzie Pierce qualified for the semifinal round of the women's 800-meter run by taking third and 13th, respectively, in Thursday's first round at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI. Johnson, the 2007 NCAA indoor and outdoor champion in the 800, ran a 2:05.36 and Pierce clocked a 2:05.87.
Johnson won the third heat of the 800, while Pierce was fifth in the first heat run on Thursday.
In the first round of the women's 100-meter dash, former Golden Bears star Antonette Carter ran a wind-aided 11.36 to place 21st. She did not reach the next round.
Five more Cal athletes will compete on Friday at nationals: Senior Kelechi Anyanwu and sophomore Emilee Strot will vie for the title in the women's discus throw final scheduled for 4 p.m. ET, senior Kevin Davis will run in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase first round (4:15 p.m. ET), junior David Torrence will take part in the men's 1,500-meter run first round (6:25 p.m. ET) and senior Giliat Ghebray will hit the track in the men's 5,000-meter run final (8:25 p.m. ET).
