Vanek is a fifth-year senior and one of the favorites to win the NCAA heptathlon crown...she is in her third year at Cal after competing at Boise State for two seasons...she missed the 2001 season with a stress fracture in her lower back...as a JUNIOR in 2000, improved almost 500 points in the heptathlon from her sophomore season...earned All-America honors for her third-place finish (career best: 5614 points) in the heptathlon at NCAAs...ranks second all-time in the heptathlon at Cal behind Ifeoma Ozoeze (5624)...claimed the Pac-10 title in the heptathlon with 5505 points...competed in the heptathlon at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials...also excelled in the sprints, hurdles, high jump and on both relays for Cal...named Most Improved Cal Female Athlete of the Year.
