1st Year at Cal

After competing for the past five years as one of Tony Sandoval's runners, Kevin Davis returned to Cal last fall as a first-year volunteer assistant coach.

Davis, a two-time All-American, is the school record holder in the 3000-meter steeplechase, breaking a 28-year-old record set by Gary Blume. He was also the anchor leg on the distance medley relay that was runner up at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2007. A four-time letterwinner in cross country, Davis posted a career-best 1500-meter outdoor time of 3:45.51. He also PRed in the mile (4:01.39) at the California Collegiate Challenge and in the 3000-meter steeplechase (8:35.37) at the USA championships.

During the indoor season of 2005, Davis clocked Cal's fastest time in the mile (4:03.55) at the Alex Wilson Invitational. He also notched Cal's third-fastest 3000 meters indoors (8:07.89, MPSF championships), and ran the first leg of Cal's third-place distance-medley relay (9:42.67) at the MPSF championships.

As a junior, Davis posted Cal's best mark of the season in the 3000-meter SC (8:56.57/Pac-10 championships), which placed him seventh all-time at Cal. He also posted Cal's second-best of the season in the 3000 meters (8:14.53/MPSF championships), which placed him third on Cal's all-time top performers.

Highlighting his sophomore campaign was when he captured Cal's best 3000-meter steeplechase time of 8:55.56 to finish ninth at the NCAA West Regional. He also placed seventh in the 3000 meters SC at the Pac-10 championships. Davis posted Cal's second-best time of the season in the 5000 meters (14:48.47).

In his first season at Cal, Davis won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:01.34 at the USATF junior championships. He had Cal's best finish (10th, 9:09.32) in the 3000 meter-steeplchase at the Pac-10 championships, and ran an NCAA regional and Pac-10 championship qualifying time of 9:06.16 in the 3000 meters SC at the Cal Open. He recorded his and Cal's best time of the season of 3:51.13 in the 1500 meters at the Mount. Sac relays, and earned his best 5000 meters time of 14:59.19 at the Big Meet.

He competed on the cross country tean, as well, during his tenure at Berkeley. In 2005, Davis posted his season-best time at the Pac-10 championships where he was Cal's third-best finisher (18th) with a time of 24:58. In the 2005 NCAA West Regional, Davis came in third among Cal runners, taking 48th overall with a time of 31:24. During his junior campaign, Davis was the Bear's second-best runner at the Pac-10 championships, crossing the line in 33rd at 25:33. He earned Cal's Most Improved award in his freshman year.

Davis graduated from Cal in 2007 with a degree in psychology.
