HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University volleyball signee Cameron Yoho (Sistersville, W.Va.) earned the 2007 Gatorade West Virginia Volleyball Player of the Year award.

"I kind of expected her to get this award after earning the West Virginia Player of the Year award," Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "Eight hundred twenty-five kills in a single season is a pretty substantial number."

The 6-foot-1 middle blocker recorded 24 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Independence in the state championship match. The win clinched the first state title of any kind in Tyler Consolidated High School's 15-year history.

"It is exciting that the same recruiting class has both the 2006 and 2007 Gatorade State Player of the Year award winners," Jacobs said. "What's more exciting is that they (Yoho and Susan Waldie from Charleston, W.Va.) may not be the two best players in that recruiting class."

Joining Yoho and Waldie are Meredith O'Malley (Charleston, W.Va.) and Megan Carlson (Andover, Minn.).

Selected as Co-Player of the Year by the West Virginia Sports Writers' Association and named honorary captain of the Class AA All-State Team, Yoho concluded her career with 2,260 kills. She also added 179 digs and 165 blocks for the Silver Knights (43-7-5) in 2007.

"There's not anybody as good as Cameron that's come out of West Virginia in the last 10 years, and I've seen some pretty good ones," said Tyler head coach Richard Summers. "There was one time this year she made a nice block on the right side, went over and made a block on the left side and finished with a kill on the right side of the net. You'd have to look really hard to see someone who moves as fluid and graceful as Cameron does."
 

Yoho comes from an extensive athletic background. Her father played offensive line for West Virginia University and her grandfather played football for Marshall.
