With its 3-1 win over Tulane, Louisville extended its win streak to nine matches and tied the longest win streak of this season. Memphis also compiled a nine-match win streak from Sept. 7-Oct. 2. Cincinnati currently boasts an eight-match win streak and has won 13 of its last 15 matches. Southern Miss head coach Santiago Restrepo is only three wins away from posting his 100th career victory. C-USA CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Saint Louis' COLLEEN HUNTER and South Florida's MICHELLE COLLIER share C-USA Player of the Week honors for the period ending Oct. 27.
COLLEEN HUNTER, Saint Louis MH, Sr., St. Louis, Mo. (Cor Jesu)
Saint Louis' COLLEEN HUNTER averaged 5.64 kills per game while hitting .319 to lead the Billikens to a 2-1 mark in conference play last week. She registered her 1,000 dig against Marquette and her 500th career block against DePaul to become the first player in C-USA history with at least 1,500 kills, 1,000 digs and 500 blocks in her career. Hunter notched 26 kills with a .404 hitting percentage against Marquette and tallied 19 kills against DePaul. She finished the week with a total of 62 kills and only 19 errors for a .319 hitting percentage. She also compiled 23 digs and 16 total blocks .
Michelle Collier, South Florida OH, Sr., Recife, Brazil (Sao Luis) South Florida's MICHELLE COLLIER led the team to a 2-1 record last week, including sweeps of conference foes Houston and TCU to keep the Bulls (8-0) perfect in conference play. She recorded three double-doubles, including 30 kills and 16 digs against Miami (Fla.) earlier in the week. Collier leads the conference with four 30-plus kill performances on the season. She compiled a total of 60 kills for a .289 hitting percentage, while adding 48 digs and six total blocks for the week. Collier also averaged 6.0 kills and 4.8 digs per game.

HUNTER AMONG THE FIRST Saint Louis' COLLEEN HUNTER became the first player in C-USA history to reach at least 1,500 kills, 1,000 digs and 500 blocks in a career. Last weekend, she tallied 19 kills against DePaul and five digs against Marquette to reach this milestone.
C-USA'S CAREER PERFORMANCES After posting 15 kills against Northeastern on Sept. 5, South Florida's MICHELLE COLLIER captured the league's career record in kills. Collier currently has a total of 2,458 kills in 436 games played. On Oct. 22, Saint Louis' COLLEEN HUNTER surpassed DePaul's Stephanie Bishop (1998-01) for second place on C-USA all-time kills list. Hunter became only the third player in league history to reach 2,000 career kills. She now has 2,105 kills in 465 matches played.
Cincinnati's TRISH LADUSAW broke the C-USA all-time digs record with a total of 1,913 in 432 games played. She surpassed former Blue Demon Stephanie Bishop (1998-01), who notched 1,842 career digs in 493 games played.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL Here are some of the top individual performers in C-USA from Oct. 21-27.
BONITA WISE, CIN: Posted a pair of double-doubles to lead the Bearcats to wins over Tulane and Southern Miss. She averaged 3.38 kills and 2.88 digs per game, while hitting .345.
ALEXIS JONES, ECU: Tallied a total of 39 kills and only five errors for a .507 hitting percentage. She also notched three services aces and a total of 10 blocks.
JENNY TANNEBERGER, HOU: Posted a total of 55 kills, including a double-double against SMU (17 kills; 10 digs) and a 25-kill performance against UAB.
BINNY FLYNN, LOU: Hit .450 for the week, including a 14-kill performance against Tulane. She also tallied six block assists and eight digs against Southern Miss.
JESSICA KLEIN, MAR: Notched a team-high .347 hitting percentage last weekend. She posted 12 kills, while adding a team-high five blocks against Saint Louis.
HEATHER WATTS, MEM: Averaged 13.42 assists, while guiding Memphis a 4-0 record last week. She totaled 161 assists and ranked second on the team with 32 digs.
BRIDGET FILES, USM: Tallied 35 kills, 19 digs and six blocks last weekend. She posted a double-double against Cincinnati with 19 kills and 13 digs.
CARISSA MILLS, TCU: Recorded 11 kills and 11 digs against South Florida to post her first career double-double performance.
COACHING MILESTONES Southern Miss head coach SANTIAGO RESTREPO is only three wins away from posting his 100th career victory. He currently holds a 97-62 career record. Saint Louis' MARILYN NOLEN is only five victories away from becoming the third Division 1 coach to tally 800 wins at four-year institutions. She has a career record of 795-334-12 in 31 years of coaching.
CARDS ON A ROLL With their seven wins this season in C-USA play, the Cards have not lost a regular-season conference match since Oct. 20, 2001, when the Cardinals fell to Saint Louis, 3-2. U of L has won 12 straight C-USA matches.
FOR THE RECORD BOOKS On. Oct. 12, Houston's JENNY TANNEBERGER tied a C-USA record for kills in a match, notching a career-high 41 against Saint Louis. South Florida's MICHELLE COLLIER was previously the lone record-holder, after nabbing 41 kills on Nov. 10, 2000.
DID YOU KNOW? If they continue to win in conference play, South Florida (8-0) or Louisville (7-0) could become only the second team in conference history to post an undefeated league mark. In the first year of C-USA play, the Cardinals notched a 12-0 conference record in 1995.
2002 C-USA TOURNAMENT The 2002 Healthy Choice C-USA Volleyball Tournament will be held on Friday-Monday, Nov. 22-25 at the DePaul Athletic Center in Chicago, Ill. Friday and Saturday matches will be held at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. (CST), while saturday's semifinal games will be begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The C-USA Television Network will carry the tournament final on Monday, Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. EST. C-USA NOTEBOOK
CHARLOTTE: Charlotte won its only match of the week, defeating East Carolina 3-1 at Halton Arena. Four players posted double-figure totals for kills, led by ABBEY SZLANFUCHT's 18. COURTNEY BURG had her 13th double-double of the season with 10 kills and a match-high 16 kills. Her 16 digs give her 1,077 for her career, moving her past MARSHA WAUFLE (1,076) and into 10th place on the school's career list. The 49ers return to action this weekend, when they host Tulane and Southern Miss.
CINCINNATI: The Bearcats extended their win streak to eight matches last weekend, defeating Southern Miss and Tulane. BONITA WISE posted a pair of double-double performances to guide UC. She tallied 11 kills and 11 digs against Tulane, followed by a 16-kill and 12-dig performance against Southern Miss. With 58 assists against Southern Miss, junior LAURA LAUDER became the school's all-time leader in assists with 3,892. She passed Paige Pees (1998-91), who registered 3,851 assists in her four-year career. Cincinnati hosts Memphis on Friday and Saint Louis on Saturday.
DE PAUL: DePaul dropped matches against Memphis and Saint Louis last weekend. LARA MARKS guided the Blue Demons, posting 14 kills against Memphis and 21 attacks against Saint Louis. She currently ranks third in the conference with a .341 hitting percentage. DePaul will face Houston at home on Friday. EAST CAROLINA: The Pirates fell to Elon and Charlotte last weekend. In non-conference action, East Carolina suffered a 3-0 setback against Elon. SARAH VICK compiled three service aces against the Phoenix, while adding a team-high nine digs. She leads the conference with an average of 0.58 aces per game. ALEXIS JONES led the Pirates, compiling 39 kills for a .507 hitting percentage last week. She also posted a total of 11 blocks and four digs. East Carolina hosts Campbell in non-conference action on Tuesday.
HOUSTON: Houston dropped a 3-0 match against South Florida, but bounced back to defeat UAB, 3-0, last weekend. JENNY TANNEBERGER led the Cougars, notching 25 kills against the Blazers. She currently leads the team in kills (4.92 pg), attack percentage (.329) and total blocks (77). MIRELA VASCONCELLOS guided the defense with a team-high 12 digs against South Florida. As a team, Houston leads the conference and ranks 10th in the nation with 18.49 digs per game. The Cougars return to action on Friday, when it travels to DePaul.
LOUISVILLE: The Cardinals remain undefeated in conference play, after defeating Southern Miss and Tulane last weekend. Louisville has now won nine straight matches and 14 of its last 15 games. BENNY FLYNN notched 14 kills for a .545 attack percentage against Tulane. She also added six block assists and eight digs against Southern Miss. Flynn finished the weekend averaging 7.0 kills and 2.0 digs per game. Louisville will look to extend its nine-match win streak and take the conference lead this weekend, when it hosts Saint Louis on Friday and Memphis on Saturday.
MARQUETTE: Marquette fell to Saint Louis and Memphis last weekend. Freshman JESSICA KLEIN hit a team-high .347 attack percentage last weekend. In a four-game setback to the Billikens, Klein posted 12 kills and a team-high five blocks, before recording 10 kills and three blocks against Memphis. Sophomore SHANNON DEVINE's 15 kill and 10-dig performance against Saint Louis marked her seventh double-double of the year. Freshman THERESA COUGLIN saw an eight-match streak of double-figure attacks come to an end against Memphis. Junior GEMMA GREER ranks third all-time at Marquette with 2,761 career assists. The Golden Eagles will look to end a five-match losing streak when they host Tulane on Friday. MEMPHIS: Memphis extended its win streak to four matches and earned two wins in conference play, after downing DePaul and Marquette last weekend. Against the Golden Eagles, the Tigers posted their second-best hitting percentage of the season, hitting .345 for the game. NANCY NELLANS downed a game-high 22 kills against Marquette, marking the fourth time in seven league matches that she has posted 20 or more kills. HEATHER WATTS tallied a total of 86 assists last weekend. She set up BRITTANY BARNETT and NANCY NELLANS, who each averaged 4.0 kills per game last week. Watts currently ranks seventh in career history with 1,240. She also notched 11 kills and six services aces for the week. Memphis faces Cincinnati on Friday and Louisville on Saturday.
SAINT LOUIS: The Billikens posted victories over Marquette and DePaul last weekend. Saint Louis dropped the first game against the Blue Demons, but came back to win the last three games. It marked the first time this season that Saint Louis was able to win the match after a game one loss. The Billikens had been 0-7 when dropping the first game of a match. COLLEEN HUNTER posted 26 kills and only seven errors for a .404 hitting percentage against Marquette. Sophomore JESSICA KMITTA tied her career-best 16 digs and MISSY WERGES tied her career high of 13 kills against DePaul. Werges also added 10 digs for her first double-double since Oct. 13, 2001, when she had 13 kills and 11 digs against Southern Miss.
SOUTH FLORIDA: South Florida remains undefeated in conference play with an 8-0 mark with wins over Houston and TCU last weekend. The last time the Bulls opened with a 8-0 start in conference play, they went on to claim a 15-1 record and 28-6 overall mark in 2000. MICHELLE COLLIER guided the Bulls, recording three consecutive double-doubles and averaging 6.0 kills and 4.8 digs per game last week. South Florida hosts Florida State on Tuesday.
SOUTHERN MISS: The Golden Eagles had their three-match winning streak snapped with back-to-back losses to league foes Louisville and Cincinnati. The Eagles recorded 17 aces on the weekend, including 10 against the Bearcats. BRIDGET FILES notched a double-double against Cincinnati with 19 kills and 13 digs. She also added six total blocks and three service aces. ANDREA BUSH recorded two double-doubles with a 12-kill and 19-dig performance against Louisville and a 10-kill and 10-dig outing against Cincinnati. Sophomore AMY TRUONG had an attack percentage of .318 in her last two matches, tallying 18 kills and only four errors.
TCU: The Horned Frogs split a pair of conference matches last weekend, downing UAB, before falling to South Florida, 3-0 last weekend. The 3-0 win over UAB was TCU's first home conference win since defeating Saint Louis on Oct. 6, 2001. CARISSA MILLS led the Frogs with five blocks against the Blazers. She also added 11 kills and 11 digs against South Florida for her first career double-double. TCU faces Marquette on Friday and DePaul on Saturday.
TULANE: Tulane fell to Cincinnati and Louisville last weekend at home. BRITNEY HURST tallied 20 kills against UC and 19 kills against the Cardinals. She currently ranks 11th in the nation with 5.38 kills per game behind South Florida's MICHELLE COLLIER, who averages 5.41 kills per game. The Green Wave takes on cross-town rival New Orleans on Tuesday, before facing Charlotte on Friday.
UAB: UAB dropped a pair of league matches last weekend, falling to TCU, 3-0 and Houston, 3-0. KRISTI LEE notched 10 kills and 11 digs for her third double-double of the season, while ALLISON MAGNER hit .348 with 12 kills and five digs. UAB returns to action on Friday when it travels to Tampa, Fla., to face South Florida.
