C-USA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DEVA FOWLER, Tulane MB, Jr., San Diego, Calif. (University City)
Tulane's DEVA FOWLER earns C-USA Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 13-19. Fowler averaged 5.09 kills, 1.45 digs, 2.00 blocks and 6.41 points per game last week that featured wins over cross-town foe UNO and C-USA victories at home against Marquette and DePaul. She tallied double-digit kill totals in all three matches, including a double-double against Marquette when she posted 21 kills and 11 blocks. Fowler hit .312 against UNO with 16 kills and just six errors in 32 swings. She also added 19 digs and two assists. Tulane currently holds a 13-match win streak, tying for the second longest in school history, while also claiming its 20th victory of the season. The Green Wave are only three wins away from breaking the school's 15 match win streak set by the 1977 club.

UNDEFEATED IN C-USA ACTION For the first time in C-USA history, Tulane and Southern Miss are 6-0 in league play this season. The traveling partners will take on tough competition this weekend when they both face No. 21 Louisville and Cincinnati. Southern Miss travels to Cincinnati (5-0) on Friday, before taking on No. 21 Louisville (4-1) on Saturday. Tulane opens against the Cardinals on Friday and then battles the Bearcats on Sunday. In overall games, the Green Wave is the only squad who is undefeated on the road with a 6-0 mark.
AMONG THE RANKED With wins over East Carolina and Charlotte, Louisville is ranked No. 21 in the latest USA Today/AVCA Coaches poll. Cincinnati, who last week received a No. 25 ranking, has fallen from the top 25.
AMONG THE NATION LEADERS C-USA has three schools ranked in the top 25 for team kills this week. Cincinnati leads the nation with 18.24 per game, while Tulane (16.52) and Memphis (16.37) follow in 15th and 20th place, respectively. UC's LAURA LAUDER also leads the nation in assists with 15.03 per game. She also has moved into the top two of the C-USA all-time assists list with 5,398 in her four-year career. DePaul's Kara Jakusz (1998-01) holds the record with 6,445 assists.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL Here are some of the top individual performers in C-USA from Oct. 13 - Oct. 19.
LAURA LAUDER, CIN: Led the Bearcats to two victories last week ... averaged 14.57 assists per game, 3.43 digs per game and helped UC to a .290 hitting percentage ... over Charlotte, Lauder dished out 49 assists and collected 21 digs.
AMY HOLMES, DPU: Registered two double-doubles in just three matches ... in the Blue Demons' match against Tulane, Holmes notched 16 kills, five blocks and 22 digs ... posted 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .300 against Southern Miss.
KELLY MCANELLY, HOU: Helped the Cougars pick up a conference road win against TCU ... recorded a double-double that included 24 kills and 16 digs while boasting a hitting percentage of .389.
SONJA PERCAN, LOU: Posted 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .429 to lead the Cardinals to a 3-1 win over East Carolina ... collected 12 kills and 12 digs for a double-double against Cincinnati.

ANDREA BUSH, USM: Led Southern Miss to a 2-0 week to remain undefeated through six matches ... registered 38 kills, 26 digs, seven aces, and six blocks in matches over DePaul and Marquette ... averaged a hitting percentage of .360 over both matches and recorded two double-doubles.

TULANE WIN STREAK Tulane currently holds a 13-match win streak, is the next squad vying for the C-USA record. USF posted the league- record 20 consecutive victories in 2000.
2003 C-USA TOURNAMENT The 2003 C-USA Volleyball Tournament will be held on Friday-Monday, Nov. 21-24 at Tulane's Fogelman Arena in New Orleans, La. The C-USA Television Network will carry the tournament final on Nov. 24 at 8 p.m. EST. Please check your local listings for details.
COACHING MILESTONES DePaul head coach DAWN DOCKSTADER will be looking to join the ranks of USF's NANCY MUELLER and Cincinnati's REED SUNAHARA, who each claimed their 100th career victory this season. With a 99-116 all-time record, Dockstader is only one win away from accumulating her 100th victory.
FIVE TIMES IN A ROW For fifth consecutive years, three Conference USA teams have advanced to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. In 2002, USF and Louisville both advanced to the second round, while Cincinnati suffered a 3-2 loss to Arizona State in the first round.

THE 20-PLUS WIN CLUB For three consecutive years, C-USA has had five schools that compiled 20 or more win seasons. In 2003, Southern Miss (21-3), Memphis (22-2) and Tulane (20-2) have already accumulated 20 or more wins; while Cincinnati is only one win away. Five C-USA schools have won 20 or more games in five of the last seven seasons.
NEW POINT SYSTEM In a new system adopted by Conference USA volleyball coaches, each player accumulates points for kills, block solos and assists and service aces. To calculate a players' total points, please use the following formula: Kills + Solo Blocks + Service Aces. (block assists equal a half-point).

C-USA NOTEBOOK
CHARLOTTE: Charlotte snapped a nine-match losing streak, defeating Radford, 3-1, on Wednesday. JESSICA KELLY and LISA NEWELL led the offensive attack for the 49ers with 14.5 and 12.5 points, respectively. Kelly notched 13 kills, while Newell added 10. ABBEY SZLANFUCHT competed for the first time for Charlotte, after sitting out nearly a month with an ankle injury. The 49ers are still in search of their first Conference USA win of the season. They will have a chance to get it this weekend, when they travel to their in-state rival, East Carolina.
CINCINNATI: The Bearcats defeated Charlotte and East Carolina last weekend. UC is currently on a seven-match win streak and remain undefeated (5-0) in league play. In Cincinnati's win over East Carolina on Saturday, gave head coach REED SUNAHARA his 89th victory at UC, moving him into second place on the school's all-time win list. Currently he trails only Mike Lingenfelter, who earned 101 wins in his five-year career at Cincinnati. Against Charlotte, LAURA LAUDER dished out 49 assists, while adding a career-high 21 digs for her eighth double-double of the year. She finished the weekend, averaging 14.57 assists and 3.43 digs per game. Cincinnati hosts Southern Miss on Friday and Tulane on Sunday.
DE PAUL: DePaul suffered losses to Southern Miss and Tulane last weekend. The Blue Demons were led by AMY HOLMES, who averaged 4.25 kills and 4.63 digs per game. She notched two double-doubles last week, including 16 kills and a career-high 22 digs performance against Tulane. Holmes leads the squad in digs this season with 3.43 per game. The Blue Demons return to action on Friday when they host Saint Louis.
EAST CAROLINA: The Pirates fell to Louisville and Cincinnati last weekend. ERICA WILSON has led the team in double-digit kills in five of the last six matches. She now ranks second on the team in kills, averaging 2.81 kills per game. In five conference matches, Wilson has also notched 63 kills on a .347 attack percentage and added 13 total blocks. ECU hosts Charlotte on Saturday.
HOUSTON: Houston defeated TCU, 3-1, last Wednesday. KELLY MCANELLY led the Cougars offensively with 24 kills and a .389 hitting percentage while also picking up 16 digs. Junior LOURE DEWS also had a solid performance finishing with 15 kills and a .433 hitting percentage. The Cougars will hit the road to take on UAB on Friday and USF on Saturday.
LOUISVILLE: The 21st-ranked Cardinals defeated East Carolina and Charlotte to improve to 4-1 in league play. SONJA PERCAN led Louisville, averaging 4.00 kills per game, while posting a .362 attack percentage. Against East Carolina, she recorded 19 kills and only four errors for a .429 hitting percentage. Louisville hosts Tulane on Friday and Southern Miss on Saturday.
MARQUETTE: The Golden Eagles lost to Tulane and Southern Miss last weekend. Sophomore THERESA COUGHLIN has 11 straight matches of double-figure kills. This past weekend, she totaled 11 and 12, against Tulane and Southern Miss, respectively. Coughlin enters this weekend's action just 19 kills shy of reaching 700 in her career. Junior ERIN FREER tied her career best with 21 attacks in the Tulane match. Freer's 13 digs in the Southern Miss contest enabled her to move into 10th place on the school's career chart in digs with 828. She is 15 digs shy of moving past Mary Donohue's (1984-86) 9th-place mark of 842. Senior GEMMA GREER cracked the 3,900 career-assists barrier this past weekend and will head into Friday's match versus Memphis with 3,903 to her credit.
MEMPHIS: The Tigers swept Mississippi, 3-0, on Tuesday. The series history, the longest in school record books, was knotted at 32-32 before Tuesday night's meeting. TIARA GILKEY and BRITTANY BARNETT downed double-digit kills for Memphis, finishing with 13 and 10, respectively. Barnett added seven digs and two blocks. Setter HEATHER WATTS led all players with 43 assists, compared to just 28 for the Ole Miss setter. The junior setter added 10 digs and a block solo in the win. She has moved into third place on the school's all-time list with 2,729. This season, she currently ranks among the nation's top 15 with 13.28 assists per game. Memphis will hit the road to face Marquette on Friday and DePaul on Saturday.
SAINT LOUIS: Saint Louis was swept by both USF and UAB last weekend. For the first time in head coach MARILYN NOLEN's tenure at SLU, the Billikens have lost five straight matches. SLU's previous longest skid was four on three occasions. ERIN MCCLANAHAN tallied her 11th double-double of the season in the match against UAB. She recorded 19 assists and 10 digs against the Blazers. Saint Louis will look to end its five-match losing streak when it faces DePaul on Friday and Marquette on Saturday.
USF: USF went 1-1 last weekend, defeating Saint Louis, but falling to Memphis. Senior FRAN POZZI had an all-around night on Saturday against the Billikens. She led all players in kills with 18 and was second in digs with 11 for a double-double. She also posted a career-high five block assists and hit .469 for the match with just three errors in 32 attempts. USF hosts TCU on Friday and Houston on Saturday.
SOUTHERN MISS: The Golden Eagles posted victories over DePaul and Marquette last weekend to improve its win streak to six matches. Southern Miss is now 21-3, marking its first 20-plus win season since 1998, when the Golden Eagles went 21-10. Southern Miss finished the weekend with a .336 attack percentage, averaging 18.4 kills and 16.0 digs per game. ANDREA BUSH led USM, registering 38 kills (5.43 pg), 26 digs (3.71 pg) and seven aces (1.00 pg). BRIDGET FILES recorded two double-double performances, totaling 11 for the season. JAZZMIEN STEPHENS put together back-to-back matches with no attack errors in 37 attempts. She finished the weekend hitting .514 with 19 kills. AMY TRUONG handed out 105 assists for a 15.0 average per game. She added four aces and seven total blocks. The Golden Eagles will face Cincinnati on Friday and Louisville on Saturday.
TCU: The Horned Frogs fell to Houston, 3-1, last Wednesday. DOMINIKA SZABO collected 27 kills on the night with freshman EMILY ALLEN dishing out 14 of her own in 25 attempts for a .520 average, her best offensive outing yet. Junior ELLEN REHME added another double-double to her list with 11 kills and 18 digs. The Horned Frogs take on USF this Friday and UAB on Saturday.
TULANE: Tulane continued its hot streak last week, claiming all three matches to run its current winning streak to 13 games (tied for second-longest streak in school history) and win its 20th game of the year. The school's consecutive wins record is 15 set by the 1977 club. Combined with last season's 21-14 finish, Tulane now has back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since the 1986 and 1987 seasons. Against Marquette, senior KARLYN DALY tied a school four-game record with 27 digs. The record did not last long, however, as junior ANASTASIA KENON posted 28 digs in a 3-1 win over DePaul. Kenon's dig total is tied for fifth in the Tulane single-match record book. Daly has also continued her assent up the Tulane career digs standings this week, posting a combined 48 digs in just seven games last week. Despite missing the DePaul match, Daly is now second all-time at Tulane with 1,211 and is currently just 41 behind career leader Kim Sentmore (1,254 from 1997-2000).
UAB: The Blazers split matches last weekend, falling to Memphis, but defeating Saint Louis. MARTINA SHIELDS posted her eighth double-double of the season against Saint Louis, recording 17 kills and 13 digs. Shields has now posted double digits in both points and kills in 16 of the 22 matches she has played in. LINDSAY CARNOHAN also posted a double-double for the Blazers against Saint Louis, recording 10 kills and 12 digs. Carnohan has two double-doubles on the season. UAB hosts Houston on Friday and TCU on Saturday.
