Tulane puts its C-USA best mark of 5-0 on the line Friday night at Marshall.

IRVING, Texas - - The race for the 2007 Conference USA regular season title gets a little bit more intense this weekend as the battle of the unbeatens face off Friday night. Marshall, who sits in second-place at 4-0, will host the league-leader Tulane Green Wave (5-0 C-USA) at 6 p.m. CST inside Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, W.Va. These are the only two undefeated teams in the league.

OCT. 1: C-USA VOLLEYBALL NOTEBOOK AND STATISTICS

Marshall (11-7) was chosen the 2007 C-USA preseason favorite, while Tulane was a close second. The Herd won the 2005 C-USA regular season and tournament titles and concluded the 2006 season at 20-12 and the second-best conference record at 12-4.

Tulane has already matched its win total from a year ago with 15 (15-3). The Green Wave returned three 2006 All-C-USA selections in Sara Radosevic, a first teamer, and second team picks Jen Linder and Ksenija Vlaskovic.

Two-time C-USA Player of the Year and preseason favorite to win the award for the third consecutive year is Marshall's Kelly-Anne Billingy. Billingy ranks second in the league with 5.02 KGP, a figure that ranks 27th nationally.

* C-USA volleyball can be seen on CSTV Tuesday night (Oct. 2) at 7 p.m. Sunday's match between Memphis and host UAB in Bartow Arena will aired on a tape delayed basic starting tomorrow.

* UAB hosted its first nationally-televised match in Bartow Arena Sunday afternoon when the Blazers avenged an early season loss to Memphis by shutting out the Tigers, 3-0. The match will be aired on tape-delay Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. on CSTV.

* Rice's Meredith Schamun was one kill shy of a triple double against Houston, posting 47 assists, 13 digs and nine kills. Her nine kills was a career-best as she tallied her fifth double-double of the year. She also hit .316 in the match.

 

 

* UAB's Nevena Stefanov helped UAB to a 2-0 record for the week by averaging 14.75 APG to go along with 2.88 DPG last week. Her 77 assists at Mercer on Tuesday was among one of the best all-time best Conference USA performances.
