IRVING, Texas - Conference USA had several solid volleyball performances last week, but earning C-USA Players of the Week honors were four standout athletes. SMU's Natalie Peters and Stefanie Kons picked up offensive and co-setter of the week honors, respectively. Tulsa's Julia Silva repeated her setter of the week merit, while UAB's Brianna Galvin earned her second career defensive player of the week accolade. Peters and Kons led SMU to the Red Raider Round Up title with all-tournament performances. Silva picked up the fourth triple-double in NCAA and first in C-USA this season with 31 assists, 16 digs and 14 kills against North Carolina Central. Galvin hustled for a C-USA best 69 digs over 15 games last week, for an average of 4.67 DPG.

CONFERENCE USA VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK -- Sept. 4

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Natalie Peters, SMU
6-0, Jr., MB, Austin, Texas (Lake Travis)
Peters guided SMU to the Red Raider Round Up title with three-straight victories, pushing SMU's overall record to 6-0. Peters concluded the tournament with a .389 hitting efficiency (36K-8E-74TA), a 3.60 KPG average, 12 block assists and five service aces against solid opponents.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brianna Galvin, UAB
5-2, Sr., L, San Carlos, Calif. (St. Francis)
Galvin hustled for a C-USA best 69 digs over 15 games last week, for an average of 4.67 DPG. The senior assisted UAB to a 2-2 record, including a 3-2 come-from-behind win at Alabama. Against the Crimson Tide, Galvin had 27 digs, she followed that performance with 23 in a four-game loss against Illinois State.

CO-SETTERS OF THE WEEK
Julia Silva, Tulsa
5-11, Sr., S, Rio DeJaneiro, Brazil (Jefferson College)
Silva produced the league's first triple-double of the season when she dished out 31 assists, had 16 digs and 14 kills in a sweep of North Carolina Central. She's one of only four players in the NCAA to have a triple-double in a three-game match this season. Silva was named MVP of the Charleston Southern Invitational, after averaging 10.0 APG, and 3.23 DPG and 2.35 KPG. She also was credited with 10 blocks and four aces, while helping TU to the team title with a 4-0 record. This is Silva's sixth career setter of the week honor.

 

 

Stefanie Kons, SMU
5-10, Jr., S, Austin, Texas (Westlake)
Kons captures her first C-USA Setter of the Week accolade after guiding the Mustangs to the Red Raider Round Up title. Kons was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 11.30 APG and 2.50 DPG. She also was credited with eight block assists and six aces. Kons missed having two double-doubles by one dig.
